General: (political statement of goals, objectives, views, philosophies) |
I have lived in the district for 23 years, having raised my three children, run a small business, taught in a public high school, and supported my son in the U.S. Army, particularly during his year-long deployment to Baghdad, Iraq.
As an immigrant (I was born in Mecca, Saudi Arabia), I am thankful for the opportunities that this country has afforded me and I want to give back to my country. In particular, I want to help preserve the middle class life that is the backbone of America and our wonderful democracy.
I am campaigning as a Democrat to defend and invest in public education; introduce health care relief, including the right to use the free market to reimport prescription drugs from Canada and using California purchasing power to promote lower cost health care for all Californians; to promote smart growth with a regional plan to accomodate transportation, affordable housing and open spaces; to reintroduce common sense and responsibility rather than ideology into the budget process.
I support reproductive rights (pro-choice), embryonic stem cell research, civil unions for same-sex partners, and freedom of religion. I am opposed to vouchers, a band-aid solution that pits parents against parents.
Most importantly, I want to represent the people of my district, regardless of the ethnicity, religion or party affiliation. Our district has been polarized by ideology--I am a moderate who listens to the members of the district and seeks solutions that bring people together. |
